Apple partners with TSMC and GlobalWafers America to expand U.S. silicon manufacturing, targeting 19 billion chips in 2025.
Apple has announced a major expansion of its U.S. silicon supply chain, partnering with TSMC and GlobalWafers America to produce more than 19 billion chips in 2025. This bold move is part of Apple’s $600 billion long-term commitment to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on overseas semiconductor production.
According to the company, the initiative will create thousands of high-skilled jobs and ensure a more resilient, secure, and sustainable supply chain. By manufacturing more chips in the U.S., Apple aims to safeguard its hardware roadmap against global disruptions while supporting the country’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
Strengthening the U.S. Semiconductor Industry
Apple’s partnership with TSMC—already the primary manufacturer of its A-series and M-series chips—will enable cutting-edge fabrication using advanced process nodes. Meanwhile, GlobalWafers America will supply silicon wafers, ensuring the raw materials for Apple’s chip designs are sourced domestically.
The investment will also support the production of chips across multiple Apple product lines, from iPhones and iPads to MacBooks and Vision Pro. This diversification not only helps Apple secure its component pipeline but also drives innovation in hardware performance, energy efficiency, and AI capabilities.
Reducing Dependency on Overseas Production
Global semiconductor supply chains have faced significant strain over the past few years due to geopolitical tensions, trade restrictions, and pandemic-related disruptions. Apple’s U.S. expansion aims to mitigate these risks by shortening supply chains and localizing critical production steps.
Industry analysts see this as part of a broader trend, with tech giants bringing manufacturing closer to home to reduce risks and enhance supply chain transparency. For Apple, this move also strengthens its image as a company committed to American innovation and economic growth.
